As we all know, spring weather in North Dakota can be a bit unpredictable! 🌦️❄️ With changing conditions from day to day, please continue to send your child with appropriate outdoor gear—this may include snow gear, jackets, and mud boots.

It is also that time of year when things get a little messy. Our playground is currently quite muddy, and while we do our best to guide students away from the worst areas, it is not always possible to avoid. Please expect that students may come home with mud on their jackets.

We appreciate your understanding, as outdoor recess is important for our students, and we will continue to go outside whenever possible rather than keeping students in due to muddy conditions.

Thank you for your continued support!

Exploring the Water Cycle!
The second grade students had fun becoming little scientists as they learned about cycles in nature. They created their very own "cloud" using a cup of water and shaving cream. Then they carefully added blue drops of water and counted to see how much the cloud could hold before it released precipitation- just like real clouds do. They were surprised when the "cloud" held 117 drops before it started to rain. They love making science come alive!

Our 1st and 2nd graders just wrapped up their 6-week nutrition class with Benson County NDSU extension agent, Sam Sears! 🥦🍎 They had so much fun learning about the different food groups and making healthy choices every day. Each week, students even got hands-on experience by making their own healthy snacks — and let’s just say there were LOTS of smiles (and maybe a few crumbs 😉). Way to go, students! We are so proud of all the smart, healthy choices you’re making! 💚

First graders really rocked their History of the Earth unit! 🌎🦴 To wrap up our learning, we dug deep and made our very own fossils. First, we helped mix up some salt dough (it was dino-mite!). Then we chose a plant or animal to press into the dough to create an imprint. After baking them in the oven, out came our very own “fossils” — millions of years in the making… well, almost. 😉 We had a roar-some time learning about how fossils are formed.

The second grade class enjoyed learning about the War of 1812 for their Knowledge unit in Language Arts. One event they learned about was when the British couldn't sink the U.S.S. Constitution ship. The ship's sides were so strong the cannonballs bounced off and the ship was then nicknamed "Old Ironsides." Here are the second graders reenacting this event. They are using "cannons" (balloon cup shooters) to shoot "cannonballs" (paper balls) at "Old Ironsides."
