Welcome to Art!

Lions, Tigers and Bears... oh YES!! I am looking forward to this year as we take a look at the "jungle" in Art class. Picasso was quoted as saying "every Child is an artist," and I truly believe there is an artist in every one of us. I hope to awaken that "artist" in the students by introducing them to different art media, how to use that media, and art history along with famous artists. I feel everyone should know for example who Da Vinci was. Who was Henri Matisse? Also, what part did art play in our history?

This will be my 38th year teaching art at the Leeds school. The art program was started by Superintendent Jim Issak in 1987. My Dad was also part of the art program when it started. Growing up art was a really big thing in our house, as he could draw and free cut just about anything. Since then, the program at Leeds has grown into a program that is recognized throughout the state. Our students have not only won local art awards, but state, national and international awards. We have such wonderful artistic kids in our school, and I am amazed every day at what they can do.

I live in Leeds with my husband, Jim, and we have three children. My daughter lives in Northwood, is married and has 5 children. She is a Kindergarten teacher in Grand Forks. One of my sons is an electrician in Fargo. My other son lives in Manhattan, Kansas, is married and has 3 children. He is a professor at Kansas State. Making up the rest of my "family" are two Schnauzers, Charlie and Molly.

If you ever want to see what we do in class, set up a day and join the fun.
